Since my last post much of my birding has been at Hogganfield Park LNR, so once again I shall devote a whole post to this wonderful wildlife resource.
Firstly, wetland birds and the Red-necked Grebe, which I found on 30 June 2020, was still present on 9 August 2020. It has proved to be very popular with bird watchers and photographers and has been admired by many, some of whom have travelled from England to get a glimpse of such a superb bird.
There are at least three juvenile Great Crested Grebes present which indicates successful breeding
During this period I managed to spot a couple of waders - Lapwings (overhead) and this Common Sandpiper on one of the 'biohavens' installed by the Friends of Glasgow's LNRs .
Resting on a larger Seven Lochs Project 'biohaven' was this male Pochard
Moving on from wetland birds, I was lucky to get close to this Buzzard
whilst also succeeding in capturing a few summer migrants, such as this Willow Warbler,
Blackcap,
and Spotted Flycatcher (poor record shot)
In addition, I was pleased to record this colourful Lesser Redpoll
a stunning male Reed Bunting
and a flock of Long-tailed Tits, one of which posed for the camera
During this period I have recorded 57 bird species at Hogganfield Park LNR and remarkably, considering the lock-down,73 for the year.
I wonder what species 74 will be?
